Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

We were so excited when this one is came to the big screen, it is simply a must-see, a masterpeice – and so what if it is in Mandarin with subtitles?

Crouching Tiger, Hidden DragonCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon single-handedly revolutionalizes the Hong Kong fight genre, transforming it into high art.

The cinematography is stunning, the acting superb, the martial arts choreography first-rate. Even if you hate kung-fu films and associate Chow Yun-Fat with brainless John Woo action crap, suspend your disbelief for long enough to get your cynical butt to the cinema.

Ang Lee is equally at ease behind the camera during breathtakingly artful fight sequences and capturing the vistas of the Ghobi desert. Michelle Yeoh is awesome. A magical love story combined at the hip with a masterful kung-fu action film, infused with a great plot and delicate camera work: this is what some of us have been waiting our whole lives for.

Thinky says: The best film of 2000. Hands down.
